End of the semester!

Hey there!

It's that time of the semester again! Final homework assignments and projects due this week. Finals next week. The next couple of weeks are sure going to be interesting!

Even though everyone is buckling down and trying to get everything finished, we still managed to have some fun this weekend! First, there was Mr. EIT on Friday. I've got to tell you it was very hard to keep myself from laughing the whole time. There were a few very "special" guys up there working their magic on the judges and crowd! If it were up to me, they'd all get a prize for getting up on that stage. They certainly deserved it!

That wasn't the end of the weekend, though! INCOSE held their annual poker tournament at Grady's Pizza on Saturday. It was loads of fun! Everyone got into it and played their best! I did much better this time and came so close to winning, but ended up in second place instead. Oh well! I'll get it next year! Here's a picture of us practicing the night before the tournament.

Let's hope these next two weeks go by quick and that we all do well on our finals! Wish us luck!

Tis the season

It's that time of the year again; I have finals, summer break and, most of all, summer work. I have been going crazy passing out resumés and going to interviews looking for a summer internship. That is what is so unique about EIT. We have tons of internship opportunities. And people are looking for students to train in their industry, especially for possible future employees. Most of our students who get internships for the summer stay with it during the school year and after they graduate go into full-time employment. I hope I can be that lucky. I have received two internship opportunities and though it was really hard for me, I made a decision. I will be interning with Nabholz in Rogers, AR this summer. I will move to Fayetteville and be involved in the pre-construction phase of the company and then they will put me in a job site. I cannot wait to start and look forward to everything I will learn and see. Fayetteville, here I come!!

Mr. EIT and Finals.

Hey everyone!

SWE is holding Mr. EIT this Friday. This is a "pageant"-esque contest where the guys of EIT dress in their geekiest geek wear and showcase their favorite talent. After a few nerdy questions are asked and answered, a winner and two runner-ups will be chosen. The grand prize is $200, second place receives $75, and third place wins $50. We're all really excited to see our boys have a little bit of late semester fun before finals.

Speaking of finals..
Last day of classes is May 7th and finals start the 9th. Normally, that means all the studying would begin around the...8th. This semester I have only one final, but four projects. Each project is due on or before the last day of class. I'm glad that once that day hits, I'll be done and have nothing to stress about, but this sleep deprivation is kind of exhausting.
Still, everyone is counting down to 05.07.12.

A very eventful weekend.

Hey guys,

Verizon

So this weekend has been one of my busiest this semester.

Friday INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering) had a technical tour of Molex in Maumelle. They make connectors inside your electrical devices from your cell phones to your TVs. Nearly every electrical device has at least one Molex connector. It was a really neat thing to get to do. We got to tour their facility and find out what type of place we may eventually get a job.

Saturday I had more going on. First I had was manning the EIT Student Services Lab from 9-3. Then I had to squeeze a Calculus III test in right after that. Then I worked a SWE (Society of Women Engineers) event. We work concessions at Verizon Arena to help us raise money for SWE Conference, the largest engineering job fair in the country. We got to work the Regina Spektor and Tom Petty concert last night. It was a crazy night with nearly 14,000 people in attendance. Even with all of the chaos it was a awesome to get to hear those two artists live.

Now it is Sunday and. . . I'm going to take the rest of the day off.

Wrapping up the Semester

Well, the semester is coming to a close, and everyone is scrambling to get all of their projects done and prepare themselves for the dreaded week that is finals week. With only two more weeks of regular classes, finals are approaching fast and everyone is ready for summer vacation.  I won't have many finals this semester, instead I have a few final projects. I have been working all semester trying to create an updated webpage for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) student chapter. Because my mobile web design class requires that I complete a final project, a finished website, accomplishing both tasks simultaneously sounded like a great idea. I have decided to make three versions of the webpage, a version for those who wish to view it on a phone, a tablet, or at a desktop computer. I have a phone that I have been able to test the webpage on (I recently upgraded to the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, which I have loved!), but I did not have a tablet. For my writing for work class, we were to write a proposal or a recommendation report. I wrote mine about the various reasons why I wanted a tablet. I had almost convinced myself to buy one after I wrote the report, and last week when I realized I did not have a device on which to test the tablet version of my website, I decided that it was time to buy a tablet. I bought an ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime, and I'm hoping that it comes in on Monday so I can play Bejeweled 2 on it, I mean... test my website.

In my quest for a new phone and a tablet, I have looked at the Google Play store ten dozen times. I have compiled a list of the best (or at least my favorite) Android games:

1.) Bejeweled 2

2.) Plants vs Zombies

3.) Peggle

4.) Tetris

5.) Pogo Games (Word Whomp, Sweet Tooth 2, Poppit, Turbo 21)

6.) Cogs

7.) Pocket Frogs

8.) Atari Greatest Hits (Aracade and Atari 2600)

9.) Zen Bound 2

10.) Words with Friends

EAST Conference and the End of the World..I mean Semester

Woo! It has been an eventful month and a half.  Things are finally starting to slow down at work as well as school.  For those of you who are familiar with the EAST Initiative, you know that the 2012 EAST Conference was an amazing success!  For those who don't, the 2012 EAST Conference was a celebration of the EAST schools in the United States.  Schools came together and showed off their projects that involved professional grade technology and community involvement.  There were many colleges and professional vendors that also attended this year's conference.  Many of the vendors (i.e. Archway Systems) taught classes for the students to get more familiar with their software.  Mr. Vernard Henley and Mr. Kyle McCourt from EIT Recruitment and Outreach were also at conference.  While being at conference, I worked hard to keep up with my classes, and I succeeded valiantly.  When I returned after Spring Break, my classes began the downhill slide towards Spring Finals.  Workloads began to increase, and project deadlines began creeping up.  After massive amounts of studying and homework, I can finally see the horizon.  Peacefullness and relaxation is soon on it's way!

Soccer rocks!

Today might've been a difficult day, but it was a great one overall!

After a hard day at school, I got to play my third match of the season in the soccer inter-murals on campus, which is very competitive. After giving it our all and holding our ground for 40 minutes, we had a hard earned and well deserved victory over one of the top seed teams! We came out on top with a 3-2 lead! It was one of those beautiful matches you wish you could play over and over! I added a photo below of the action! Hope you enjoy!

See you soon,

Spring Is Here!!!

Hello all!

Spring is here and has hit hard.  In the past few months, Little Rock has been having some great weather and I have been doing everything I can to be out in it.  It has really been a big motivator to get my studying done early so that I can head out to all the local fun stuff around.  Recently I have been spending a lot of time at burns park, a couple of local lakes, and even a few great hiking trails.  The weather has allowed me to have an absolute blast and I hope it continues. As proof, I have provided a pic from the Arkansas River, just outside of Little Rock.  If you look hard enough, you can just see the top of the Arkansas Capital Building.  Overall, it has been a great month and I sure hope it continues!

The Daily Grind

P38

The weeks are flying by as we approach the end of the year! I've been super busy with my internship at Baptist Health installing a new computerized system called Epic throughout their hospital system. I also just bought a new car! It's pretty much my favorite possession of all time (I posted a picture). I also recently got hired as an ambassador here at EIT for the 2012-13 school year, and I'm super psyched about that opportunity. Classes are getting a little more difficult, and sometimes it's hard to manage, but I'm doing my best. I'm definitely ready for summer to spend some more time in this gorgeous weather we've been having!

Until next time,
Brandi

Fast, Cool, Awesome Cars... and they go fast!!

I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but there is more than just horse racing in Arkansas.  There are car races too!! And the awesome thing is that it's not only cheap to get in, $12 tops, but it is really close to campus.  It's the I-30 Speedway!! They race sprint cars: mini, regular size, and modified.  And they also race stock cars, including modified and super stock cars.  It's just a dirt track but "man, oh man," is it awesome!!! The pure energy from the crowd and the drivers is just contagious!! Not only that, but I also know two of the drivers who are in construction management; one drives a mini sprint car and the other drives a super stock car.  Plus, the super cool thing is that my friend who drives the super stock totally let me work on his car to get it prepared for race day!! Oh yeah that's right! I worked on a race car.  Granted, all I did was put stickers on it, but it was still so AWESOME!!! I'm hoping one day he'll put a seat in there for me  and let me ride in the car while he tests it out!! Here's hoping!!! And just for your pleasure here is a picture of my handy work!! :D
